  *  On 1 March 1983, the watch brand [[Swatch]] with an emphasis on youthful fashion [[quartz]] watches comes on the market.

  *  A consortium of [[Schnyder, Rolf|Rolf Schnyder]], Dieter Meier, and Balthasar Meier purchase [[Ulysse Nardin]] from [[Ogival]].
  *  [[North American Watch]] acquires [[Movado]] from [[Movado-Zenith-Mondia]] owner [[Dixi]]. [[Zenith]] takes over the Dixi factory and begins to rise once again.
