A chronometer is a **precision watch** that is regulated in different positions and at different temperatures, and which has received an official certificate of the performed [[chronometer certification]] by a neutral official authority.

The development of chronometers began with an announcement of the British Parliament in the year [[1714]] the Act of the Queen Anne (Act of Parliament).
