====== ETA 2890 ====== **Cal. 2890** (and similar **Cal. 2892**) is an ultra-thin automatic watch movement produced by ETA from 1975 to 1983. It was replaced by ETA 2892-2. ===== Overview ===== ETA was one of the premier automatic watch movement makers of the 1950's and 1960's, and were allowed by Ebauches SA to develop a modern, ultra-thin movement for the 1963 Eterna-Matic 3000. This movement, Cal. 1466U, featured many innovations, including a modular, one-plate design with the automatic winding works sunk into a depression at the center of the gear train. That movement was updated to become Cal. 1504, operating at 28,800 A/h. As ETA emerged as the strongest movement maker for the entire Swiss watch industry during the quartz crisis, Cal. 1504 was updated to become **Cal. 2890** and, with quickset date, **Cal. 2892**. Like their Eterna predecessors, they use a ball-bearing rotor and feature efficient "Eterna" gears for a power reserve of 42 hours. Cal. 2890/2892 remained at 12.5 ligne (28 mm) like its predecessors, but it was replaced in 1983 by the narrower 11.5 ligne ETA 2892-2, predecessor of today's ETA 2892A2. ===== Clones ===== * Soprod 9094 - with day dial, power reserve indicator, and retrograde date indicator ===== See Also ===== * Eterna 1504, the predecessor movement * ETA 2892-2, the successor movement **Description:** * Self-winding movement * Incabloc shock protection * Escapement Stone lever * Yoke winding system **Functions:** * Central seconds * Rapid calendar advance * Hacking seconds * Optional quickset date **Data:** * 12½ lignes * D 28.2 mm, H 3.6 mm * 21 jewels * 28,800 A/h * Power reserve 42h **Production period:** * 1975-1983
