Louis Cartier develops the famous rectangular
wristwatch Santos for his friend, the Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont. It is regarded as the first
pilot's watch - it was also the model which made the
wristwatch, previously rather reserved for women, acceptable as men's watch.
