Rolex Submariner
Dive watch by Rolex
After many experiments 1953 the first special wristwatch for divers was brought on the market by Rolex — the Submariner. Initially, the water resistance was only guaranteed up to 100 m. Over the years this model was then constantly refined. Thus, 1957 the case and the Bezel were strengthened, 1959 a crown protection was added. In the 1960's and 1970's the watch was delivered with a plexiglass. It was complemented 1966 by a date display and in the 1980's with the left turning bezel. 1988, she received a sapphire crystal. From the same year on it was waterproof to a depth of 300 m.
Today, the Submariner is rightly counted to the most famous luxury watches in the world, perhaps it is even the best known of all. At all events it is, since Sean Connery bore it in the first James Bond films, an icon of prestige and reliability. Not only has its high quality workmanship set standards, but also its functionality, its readability, the indestructibility of the Oyster chassis — not to mention the sturdy chronometer movement, whose precision is a class by itself and totally deserves the dial label it bears: superlative chronometer.
A further development of the "Submariner" for even greater immersion depths represent the models Sea-Dweller (waterproof to 1,220 meters and additional helium escape valve) and Sea-Dweller Deepsea. The latter was presented 2008 as a new development, which is even waterproof to a record depth of 3,900 m and also contains a number of further modifications.
Below the current Rolex "Submariner Date", Ref 16610 is described. The "no date Submariner" (Ref 14060M) is also still available, though mostly pushed in the background by the better-known model. The anniversary model, presented in 2003, is still to mention, which captivates attention with its green bezel, its extra large indexes (Maxdial) and a wider minute hand.
