  *  [[Ferdinand Adolph Lange]], the later founder of [[A. Lange & Söhne]], is born on 18 February in Dresden as son of the gunsmith Samuel Lange. 
  *  On 6 October, the Dresden watchmaker [[Gutkaes, Johann Christian Friedrich|Johann Christian Friedrich Gutkaes]] receives the master craftman's diploma and founds an art watch factory in Dresden, Wilsdruffer Gasse 234.
