  *  [[Junghans, Erhard|Erhard Junghans]], the founder of the traditional German watch manufacturer [[Junghans]], dies on September 9, 1870. Four years before Junghans had started an own watch manufacturing.
  *  The Englishman Edward Brown becomes the sole owner of the [[manufacture]] [[Breguet]].
  *  [[Odin Watch Factory]] is founded in [[Bienne]] by the Lassueur family. It would be taken over by [[Sandoz, Henry|Henry Sandoz]] around the turn of the century, becoming the famous [[Sandoz]] brand.
  *  [[Busga]] is founded in [[La Chaux-de-Fonds]]
