  *  On 1 January Johannes Dürrstein founds the company Dürrstein & Comp. in [[Glashütte]], a factory to produce [[Glashütte]] precision [[pocket watch]]es. It will be later renamed to [[Union]]. 
  *  The name "[[Longines]]" is registered at the International Office for Intellectual Property on 27 March and therefore is the oldest registered watch manufacturer in the world.
