Elements are said to be **applique** or **applied** when they are separate pieces attached to something else. [[Numeral]]s and other [[marker]]s are often applied to a [[dial]], for example, rather than being [[stamped]] or [[painted]]. Most applied design elements are held in place with adhesive but often include a post or rivet to secure them in place.
