====== Grand Seiko 62GS ====== The **62GS** was the first automatic Grand Seiko model, produced by Suwa Seikosha for Seiko from 1967 until 1969. On its introduction, the 62GS became the high-end model in a three-model Grand Seiko range The older manually-wound 57GS continued in production, while the stylish Daini-produced 44GS was introduced at the same time. It was upstaged by the automatic Hi-Beat 61GS in 1968 and phased out. Now that Seiko had proven the Grand Seiko concept, the company began adding important features to the model line. The first was an automatic movement, introduced in 1966 on the calibre 6200. It was originally branded **Seikomatic Chronometer** but the Swiss COSC appealed Seiko's self-certification of chronometer ratings and Seiko was forced to drop the word. Historically, it is known simply as the 62GS. The 62GS contained a new automatic movement with 35 or 39 jewels. Oscillating at 19,800 A/h, it was available with date only or day and date. The 62GS was not produced in large numbers and is difficult to find today. It is distinguished by a flush-mounted crown at 4 00 and a contoured case.
