**Richard Lange** (1845-1932) was the first son of [[Ferdinand Adolph Lange]].

He is considered as the scientist in the Lange dynasty, for he was responsible for 27 patents and utility models. His greatest invention was the addition of the element [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beryllium|Beryllium]] as an alloying element of [[balance wheel]] [[hairspring]]s. Not only was their elasticity and strength increased, but also the sensitivity to temperature fluctuations and magnetic fields was significantly reduced by this addition.

As a tribute to Richard Lange, the model [[A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange]] was developed and launched by [[A. Lange & Söhne]].
