He idolized Abraham Louis Breguet and pledged to follow in the footsteps of the great watchmaker. This brought him to enroll at the Horological School of Le Sentier. Roth worked for three of the leading Swiss watchmakers from 1972 through 1988, refining his craft and knowledge. This included a time at Jaeger-LeCoultre and a focus on ultra-thin movements for Audemars Piguet, both in Le Sentier, as well as years at Chaumet in Le Brassus spent refining his craft. He rose to become technical manager for Chaumet, producing watches that drew comparison to the products of Breguet. In 1988, Roth founded his own company in Le Sentier, launching the **Daniel Roth** brand the following year. He chose Italy as his initial market, since the country was known to favor complicated watches in precious metal cases. In 1991, Roth partnered with Siber Hegner to market his watches worldwide. Daniel Roth brand watches were instantly recognizable by their characteristic case shape A combination of circle, square and oval unique to him. He specialized in tourbillon watches, retrograde hands, and other complications. In 1994 Roth sold his company to the Singapore-based trading house The Hour Glass, which already distributed most of his watches. Roth remained with the company, however, and was responsible for many of their complications in the 1990s. In 2000 the Italian luxury group Bulgari took over the brand, which was merged with the Gerald Genta brand and is now a model line under Bulgari within LVMH. After 2000, Daniel Roth continued to pursue his own watch projects separate from his brand. Roth produced a few watches a year in his home for special clients. He was an active part of Maître du Temps, an association of master watchmakers and in 2009, Roth co-created the Maître du Temps Chapter Two with Peter Speake-Marin.
