====== Staff ======
A **staff** is a linear component for the forwarding of rotation movements and forces, as well as for bearing of rotating parts. In [[movement]]s [[wheel]]s or [[gear]]s are attached on [[shaft]]s or drives, whose [[pivot]]s turn in [[jewel]] bearings to reduce the friction.

An example of a typical highly stressed shaft in a watch is the [[balance staff]]. To avoid breakage, e.g. when the watch falls to the ground, this is secured by a [[shock protection]].
