====== Sterling silver ======
**Sterling silver** is a metal alloy of 92.5% pure [[silver]] and 7.5% other metals, usually [[copper]]. Thus the fineness is 925/1000. The alloy is harder than pure silver. It is often used for [[guilloché]] dials.

The name refers to the well-known British //Pound Sterling//. The former British penny coins were made from this material.
