VC 5200

Calibre 5200 is a manufacture automatic chronograph movement from Vacheron Constantin first produced in 2016.

Overview

Vacheron Constantin long relied on ebauche movements from Jaeger-LeCoultre, F. Piguet, and Audemars Piguet, but in 2016 they unveiled a family of in-house movements to be used across their product line. Cal. 5200 is the company's chronograph movement, with column wheel, central rotor automatic winding, and modern 28,800 A/h frequency. The movement is quite large, measuring 30.60 mm (13 1/4 ligne) in diameter and 6.60 mm thick. It is also extravagantly jeweled, with 54 jewels specified. Vacheron Constantin is proud to have a Geneva Hallmark on all these movements.

This movement replaced the F. Piguet-derived VC 1137 movement in chronograph watches from Vacheron Constantin such as the Overseas Chronograph, though Cal. 5200 is quite a bit larger than that 26.2 mm movement. Cal. 1137 had a big date module, however, while Cal. 5200 has a small date aperture placed at 4 30 on the Overseas Chronograph.

Although the design is reminiscent of the time-and-date VC 5100 movement introduced at the same time, Cal. 5200 is not a module on top of that movement. Instead, the elements of the chronograph are integrated into a movement of similar design and construction.
