On 1 January Johannes Dürrstein founds the company Dürrstein & Comp. in Glashütte, a factory to produce Glashütte precision pocket watches. It will be later renamed to Union.
The name “Longines” is registered at the International Office for Intellectual Property on 27 March and therefore is the oldest registered watch manufacturer in the world.
