AS 5008

Calibre AS 5008 (and similar AS 5004 and AS 5007) is an automatic alarm movement from A. Schild produced between 1973 and 1977.

Although alarm movements had been widely produced in the 1950's, it was not until the following decade that automatic alarm movements were produced. A. Schild developed their own unique automatic alarm movement and introduced it in 1973 since quartz alarm watches had not yet been developed.

Unlike many other automatic alarm watches, the rotor winds both the alarm and timekeeping barrels. One direction of rotation winds the timekeeping barrel and the other winds the alarm.

This movement features two crowns, at 2 00 and 4 00

Variants

Cal. 5008 was produced with and without a day and date dials. Although given different names, all three movements are typically signed “AS 5008”. A manual winding version, AS 5001 was also produced.
