Fineness

The fineness is the mass content of the most precious metal of a piece of jewelery, device or a coin. It is expressed in parts per thousand, so in 1000 parts of the total weight.

Example Gold 750 contains 75% pure gold; this also corresponds to the traditional and still mainly common specification of 18 carat.

The numerical indication of the fineness is stamped in Germany since January 1, 1888.
