A panda watch is one with black subdials on a light or white dial.

One of the most famous “panda” dials is the legendary exotic-dial "Paul Newman" Rolex Daytona. These feature a plain dial with even the hour markers moved to an outer ring with three black subdials at 3 00, 6 00, and 9 00. The desirability of these watches and their resemblance to the panda bear gave rise to “panda” as a generic term for any black-on-white chronograph watch.

Numerous other companies have created panda-dial chronographs over the years. Examples include the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph, Omega Speedmaster, Seiko 6138, TAG Heuer Carrera, and Zenith Chronomaster. Some would call watches with the Valjoux 7750, with subdials at 6 00, 9 00, and 12 00 “semi-panda”, and versions with white-on-black dials “reverse-panda”.
