- Gerd-Rüdiger Lang has the great idea of transfering the principle of the regulator display to the wristwatch. His model Regulateur lays the foundation for the success of his company Chronoswiss.
- After Longines has been taken over by the SMH group, to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Lindbergh landing at Le Bourget a collection of the hour angle watch is released again after a pause of several decades.
- Jaeger-LeCoultre launches the Perpetual Date.
- Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy are brought together as LVMH, one of the largest watch and luxury trusts today.
