Chime movement

A chime movement is a striking movement (French sonnerie).

Separate gear train mechanism, by which the displayed time is indicated automatically or on demand by an acoustic signal with hammer on bells, gongs or case housing. The first chime movements were created in 1300 and technically were locking plate percussions. Later Barlow developed the striking track on rack movement.
