Huawei

Huawei is a major Chinese supplier of information and communications technology. Including computers (laptops), smartphones and so-called wearables1), including smartwatchs.

Huawei Technologies Co, Ltd. was founded 1987 by IT engineer and entrepreneur Ren Zhengfei and is headquartered in Shenzhen, a Chinese special economic zone.

Huawei is under political pressure, especially from the U.S., which fears that the Chinese leadership will exert influence on the communications technology sector due to its technological ties. The company provides parts of the mobile network technology in the USA. A U.S. court ruled Huawei a security risk2), as a result of which state subsidies to mobile operators using the company's products were discontinued.

According to the court, Huawei was subservient to the Chinese government and engaged in espionage. In particular, the relationship with the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China was a major security risk to the US, it said. The decision to expel Huawei was unanimous across party lines at the time and is now final, the judges said. Huawei cannot appeal again, they said.
