The company Bethge & Söhne was founded in 1939 in Pforzheim by Richard Bethge and his wife Emilie. During the Second World War, Richard Bethge on behalf of the German Wehrmacht optimized the Breguet hairspring and the compensation balance for the pilot's watches of the Wehrmacht.
Today, the company with headquarters in Ispringen near Pforzheim, is one of the last German family-owned watch manufacturers. It employs more than 20 employees and is currently managed in second generation by Heinz and Wolfgang Bethge. And with Alexander Bethge, son of Heinz Bethge, the third generation is already active in the company. Those responsible are especially proud of for the fact that the production of watches takes place almost entirely by hand.
In May, 2008, the new online shop of the company was inaugurated. The offer includes pilot's watches to dive watches to chronographs and elegant models are equipped with high quality Swiss movements such as ETA 2824-2 or Valjoux 7750. The well-known models of the company include primarily the observation watch “B1” and the chronographs “Magellan II” and “Humboldt”. The latter was successful in the watches test of Uhrenmagazin 05/2007 in the price range up to 1000 Euro.
Bethge & Söhne is one of the most competent partners for professional overhaul and refreshment of old and historic dials. This service was already used by more than thankful 30,000 customers, including not only watch collectors, but also jewelers and watch manufacturers. The processing of historical speedometers and display instruments in cars is also included in the performance scope.
In addition to the brand Bethge & Söhne the Richard Bethge GmbH also markets the following brands BrandTaucher (dive watches) and Hohensax (complications, eg. tourbillons with movements produced in Asia).
