Crocco, Carlo

Carlo Crocco was a watch entrepreneur and founder of Hublot.

The Italian Carlo Crocco worked in the family business, the company Binda, until 1976. This was the leading watch sales in Italy. However, since he preferred to realize his own ideas, he left Binda with 32 years and in 1980 founded the watch manufacturer MDM Genève in Geneva. His vision was to combine refined Italian design with solid Swiss craftsmanship. He developed a watch with a style not seen before the luxury case in gold was held by 12 titanium screws, and the bracelet was in black rubber. According to the shape he called the watch “Hublot” (French word for porthole).

Later, the distinctive designation Hublot has been selected as the sole name of the watch manufacturer. The watch company Hublot, about which there wasn't much to hear in later years, celebrated a spectacular comeback after the entry of the crafty watch expert Jean-Claude Biver in April 2005. This was mainly because of the new model Big Bang developed by Biver. Biver emphasizes that the first suggestion for the underlying concept of “fusion”, i.e. the combination of different - both natural and artificial - materials, was due to Croccos basic idea.

Crocco decided in 2008, not to sell the company to Biver (who would have been really delighted to buy), but to the luxury goods group LVMH, which could provide a much higher sum.

To the activities of Carlo Crocco also belongs his commitment in the humanitarian field so his foundation MDM (Main Dans La Main - Hand in Hand) helps disadvantaged children around the world.
