The Lange 1, the first great success of A. Lange & Söhne after the restart of the brand

- On 1 March Hans-Jürgen Mühle takes over the 1980 expropriated former family business as a sole owner and trades under the traditional name of Mühle-Glashütte GmbH, Nautische Instrumente & Feinmechanik.
- On 25 October the house of Lange presents its first creations Lange 1, Arkade, Saxonia and the men's wristwatch with tourbillon "Pour le Mérite"
- The entrepreneur Heinz W. Pfeifer and the Nuremberg jeweler Alfred Wallner buy the Glashütte watch company (GUB) on 1 November by the Treuhand (organization to handle privatization after the German “Wende”), after a first attempt to privatize with France Ebauches had failed. The brand is now called Glashütte Original.
- The hand-winding Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox is the first with a display caseback.
