Watchmaking School Furtwangen

The Watchmaking School Furtwangen (Uhrmacherschule Furtwangen, Robert-Gerwig-Schule) is the oldest such school in Germany. It has contributed greatly to the development of the watchmaking industry in the Black Forest and until today educates watchmakers.

In 1852 Robert Gerwig founded at this school a watch collection for teaching purposes. This collection, which was made public, formed the basis of the German Watch Museum Furtwangen, which today represents one of the leading German watch collections.
