Self-strike

Self-strike is a sound mechanism in a watch.

It is a carillion of a pocket or wristwatch, which – in contast to a repetition – takes action totally by itself. Depending on the design, as in a pendulum, the hours (Petite Sonnerie) and also quarters of an hour (Grande Sonnerie) are represented acoustically “in passing”. By pressing a button such complicated mechanisms are also able to repeat the hours, quarter hours and minutes.
