Citizen
Citizen is a Japanese watch manufacturer and one of the largest watch companies in the world. Most watches have quartz movements or Eco-Drive. In 1989, Citizen introduced the Promaster brand of tool watches.
Citizen is organised in several Corporate divisions. The Citizen Group is called Citizen Holdings.
The subsidiary Miyota is responsible for the production of mechanical movements at Citizen. Citizen, under Citizen Systems Japan Co., also produces business and consumer electronic devices.
The brand Bulova, known for its former tuning fork movement in the Bulova Accutron (the first electronic watch), also belongs to Citizen.
In March 2012 Citizen Watch, part of the Citizen Holding, has bought the mechanical movement manufacturer La Joux-Perret and the watch manufacturer Arnold & Son.
In May 2016 it was announced that Citizen would acquire Frederique Constant Holding, owner of the Frederique Constant and Alpina brands.
In 2019, Citizen introduced Calibre 0100, claimed to be the most accurate watch movement ever produced. Accurate to 1 second per year, this quartz movement uses an “AT Cut” oscillator rather than the more conventional tuning fork shape and operates at much higher frequency.
