The Reverso Squadra is a wristwatch in the Reverso family produced by Jaeger-LeCoultre from 2006, replacing the Reverso Gran'Sport.

Overview

Jaeger-LeCoultre marked the 75th anniversary of the Reverso line by introducing an all new line, the wide Squadra. The Italian word for “team”, Squadra is also a play on the English word, “square”. The inner case is indeed square, though the large base gives a ratio of 1.45 1. This is similar to the Reverso II from the 1980s as well as the rare 31 x 21 mm Reverso models of the 1930s. But the Squadra models were massive, much larger than any previous production Reverso model. Another first for a Reverso was the 50-component titanium case used in the Reverso Squadra World Chronograph.

The Squadra replaced the Reverso Gran'Sport as the sports watch in the Reverso lineup. Like its predecessor, the Squadra relied on complicated movements and was aimed at a younger audience than the dressy classic Reverso models.

History

The original Squadra lineup consisted of the Squadra Hometime, Chronograph GMT, and World Chronograph. The Hometime and Chronograph GMT share a 50.5 mm tall by 34.9 mm wide by 14.1 mm thick case. The Hometime uses Jaeger-LeCoultre's “Autotractor” automatic movement, while the Chronograph GMT and World Chronograph use the Cal. 754/753 automatic chronograph movement, one of the first such movements designed in-house by the company. “Black” models of the Chronograph GMT and Hometime were launched two years later. The titanium World Chronograph was augmented with ceramic components for the Polo Fields model launched in 2009.

In 2008, Jaeger-LeCoultre debuted a new ladies line of Reverso Squadra watches. The eponymous Reverso Squadra Lady was joined by the Reverso Squadra Lady Duetto and Reverso Squadra Classique/Classic. The Lady and Duetto were equipped with the automatic movements Cal. 966 and Cal. 968J, respectively, while the Classique (also called “Classic”) was equipped with the quartz movement Cal. 657.

Although moderately successful, the Squadra did not set a new standard for the Reverso. As Jaeger-LeCoultre refreshed their lineup in the mid-2010s, the company decided against continuing it. The Classique was the first to be eliminated in 2014, with most other models ceasing production in 2015. The last Squadra model offered for sale was the Lady Duetto, which lasted until 2017.
