Breitling - Swiss watch manufacturer

Breitling was founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling in Saint-Imier (Switzerland). In 1892 the plant was relocated to La Chaux-de-Fonds into the newly constructed watch factory, which initially specialized in pocket watches.

When Léon Breitling dies in 1914 with only 54 years, the manufacture passes on to his son Gaston Breitling. This, in the wake of the then newly emerging development of aviation, begins to be interested in aeronautics and starts reflections on how to construct watches suitable to this application.
