What happened on December 18:

  • 1960 — A team at the Seiko site in Suwa, central Japan, completes the first “Grand Seiko” model with a gold case and a slim manufacture caliber. This marks the birth of the eponymous “Grand Seiko” brand.
  • 1965 — American astronauts Frank Borman and James A. Lovell, Jr. land after orbiting the earth 206 times in 14 days aboard Gemini VII. The astronauts wear Omega Speedmaster watches on the mission.
  • 2017Piaget introduces the Altiplano Ultimate Automatic with Cal. 910P, the thinnest automatic watch produced to date.
